I’m an admitted book hoarder. I load up my Kindle with a ton of books that there is no way for me to get through everything I’d like to read in my lifetime. But there are some books that bypass the queue of novels awaiting me every year, and this list is a shrine to the shortlist of 2021 releases! Today, we will list our Amazon Affiliates link, as well as Los Angeles-based Eso Won Books, a Black-owned bookstore that caters to Black readers in Leimert Park. Finally, for easy access to a buyable list of any books on this list, check out this Bookshop list.

Island Queen by Vanessa Riley
We love a good historical fiction, especially one that takes place during a time not usually written about. Island Queen is based on a true rags-to-riches story about Dorothy Kirwan Thomas, a free woman who goes from slavery to immense wealth. Vanessa Riley is no stranger to writing a good historical fiction, so this one is sure to be a good read.
